If your mom always told you never to eat in bed, this might be why. This storyteller once had a patient come in who couldn’t open her eyes. This injury happened all of a sudden, and the woman said that she had no idea what was going on. Our storyteller did a minor operation and pulled out…a popcorn kernel. 

The woman finally admitted to her crime. She was eating popcorn while lying in bed. A full-sized kernel fell into her eye and got lodged in there. That sounds so painful. Once the kernel was removed, she swore that she would never eat popcorn in bed again. Her mom was probably right, too.
