Eventually, geography and ambition intervened. By 1951, diverging careers and constant travel eroded their connection, making permanence impractical. Neither pushed for marriage; both understood the limits of what they could realistically sustain.

The relationship ended without bitterness. Aumont remained one of Hedy’s longest post-marriage partnerships, representing a rare period of balance between affection, freedom, and mutual respect.
